LESSON 34
TOPIC: Keep your Good Seeds a Secret TEXT: Matthew 6: 1-6, 16-18.

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 3: 9 “Honour the Lord with thy substance.”

TEACHER’S OBJECTIVE
1. To inform children that alms, help and personal prayer are good seeds.
2. Children have to perform these actions in secret so as to receive rewards from God.

CENTRAL TRUTH
God rewards openly good deeds done in secret.

INTRODUCTION
Teacher should ask children to mention good deeds which God likes.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
1. Jesus warned us not to give alms before men so as to be praised by them. If we do this,
there will be no reward from God. Matthew 6:1.
2. When you give gifts as alms, don’t make noise of it so that you can be praised before men.
Doing this, you have your reward. Matthew 6:2
3. Don’t let others know when you are doing your alms. Matthew 6:3
4. Don’t stay in any open place so as to be seen when praying by people. You’ve had your closet.
    Matthew 6: 5-6.
5. When you fast, don’t put on a long or sad face so that people can know you are fasting. Doing
this you have your reward. Dress well, be cheerful and God who sees you in secret will reward
    you openly.

LIFE APPLICATION
When you are giving gifts to your friends or other people don’t make a show about it. Don’t pray
openly or loudly so that people can know that you know how to pray. God will reward your secret
prayer. And when you fast, don’t put on a serious look, rather, look your best, God who sees your
secret fast will reward you openly.

CONCLUSION
When you give your alms or fast don’t make a show of it. When you give don’t let your left
hand know what your right hand does.

CHALLENGE
God is looking at the heart and not the face. He looks at the motive, not the action. Your heart
should be pure and your motives right for you to receive rewards for your good deeds.

INVITATION
Invite Jesus into your life. Tell him to hide you under his wings so that your gifts can be
acceptable.
